Ten Reasons Why You Should Date a BOSCONIAN

THE PERFECT GUY OR GIRL- Do they exist in this planet or is this just something out of a teenage vampire novel or something out of some number of shades in a monochromatic color palette?

In our undying crusade for our significant other, we always have these so called "requirements" or "prerequisites". What are yours? What are you looking for in a guy or a girl? What is your perfect guy or girl comprised of? Should they be the type that you bring home to your parents and say "Mom, dad, she's the one", or should they be the Bonnie and Clyde type where you both live the motto "me and you against the world"? Could that someone be a person who shares the same likes and hobbies as you have? Is it somebody who is in perfect alignment with your star or is compatible with you in many ways? Is it a requirement for her to have clean feet and smooth armpits? (okay that's clearly mine)... erm, anyway...

With all those traits flying out of your mouth, would you ever put "BOSCONIANS" in your check list? Would you ever date one? Here are a few reasons why you should include these particular types of men or women in your ocean of adjectives and nouns jotted down on your checklist:

1. BOSCONIANS WILL ALWAYS HAVE GREAT STORIES - whether it's about their crazy high school life, or how it was always a boys/girls night out back then, or anything under the sun, it will always be awesome! The conversations that you will have with them are the kind wherein a few hours later, you'd wonder how the hell did you guys got to that topic! (but it wouldn't even matter because it's hilarious!)

2. BOSCONIANS ARE RELIABLE AROUND THE HOUSE - think of them as Swiss Army Knives. They are regular McGuyvers and would always be ready may it be a problem with your computer, your car, any electrical appliance, etc. They might even know a thing or two on welding, soldering lead on your printed circuit board (pcb), or even furniture and architectural design. During their grade school and high school days, they get to clean the classrooms (sweep the floor, apply floor wax, clean the windows and take out the trash) at least once a week. With that said, rest assured they would be more than willing to clean your place fix stuff for you!

3. BOSCONIANS ARE OVERALL GOOD GUYS - They are good persons before you date them, while you date them, and after you date them. Bosconians are capable of letting go of whatever grave injustices were done to them, who doesn't blame the world for their misfortunes. They respect themselves, and will treat you the way you deserve to be treated. They are nice but not doormats, confident but not assholes. They get to date a good person just by simply being one.

4. BOSCONIANS WOULD RATHER MAKE GIFTS RATHER THAN BUY THEM -  Bosconians will go the extra mile to put effort to those gifts that they give their friends or their special someone. They are known to think outside the box and wouldn't even settle for just the staple "bouquet of flowers + Ferrero Rocher + love letter + teddy bear" combination. Rest assured, you'll always get something personalized from them!

...that or they just don't have too much money yet.

5. BOSCONIANS TEND TO BE VERY ROMANTIC - while this statement might make someone roll their eyes or throw up their lunch or dinner a bit while remembering a nasty relationship with an ex who is also a Bosconian, give this statement a chance. You will never forget the time wherein you dated one, may it have ended in a bad way or may it have been the beginning of forever. (naks)

6. BOSCONIANS ARE PASSIONATE PEOPLE- Music, arts, academics, extra-curricular activities, sports, love, pursuing their dreams. These are just one of the many things Bosconians excel at. They are good at what they do because they are passionate about it. Bosconians will always live by their motto: "Meliora Eligo", which means "I choose the better things".

Passionate people are contagious so if ever you are dating one, or even if you are a friend of one, you will be infected. Who knows, it might ignite an undiscovered passion in you, who has been needing a spark as well!

7. BOSCONIANS WILL ALWAYS TREAT YOU WITH RESPECT - four words: "Maginoo, pero medyo bastos".

8. BOSCONIANS ARE MULTI-TASKERS - With all their subjects, assignments, projects, plates, and what not, they will still find time to play basketball/ football/ volleyball, play computer games for hours on end, or just plain hang out at nearby malls, and still get to finish schoolwork.

9. BOSCONIANS WILL ALWAYS PUT GOD ABOVE ALL ELSE - Whatever a certain Bosconian's personality is, may he be a good, down to earth guy, or an athlete, or a musician, who would always bring a guitar in school, or a typical rock fanatic, who would always be at the center of mosh pits raising hell, or a ghetto kind of guy, or a party animal who is always seen at clubs, or a rebel type of person who just doesn't give a shit about anything - they all have something in common... their relationship with God.

Bosconians are God-fearing individuals. They are taught the first day they step inside the campus to pray, pray, pray, and to offer all that they do to God. They pray before starting class, before and after recess/lunch, praying the Angelus at noon, praying the rosary everyday during October, and in any kind of situation. You should see how hard these boys/girls pray during examinations, how solemn and sincere those prayers are. You can tell by looking at them at least 2 minutes after receiving the examination papers. They would be usually be looking at the ceiling, looking for an answer. Kidding aside, Bosconians will always put God above all else, and thus will make good parents in the future.

Trivia: One way to identify a Bosconian- They always have a rosary inside their pocket.

10. BOSCONIANS DO THEIR DUTIES EXTRAORDINARILY WELL - enough said.

  12. This is an emotional generalization. I married a true-blue Bosconian and 80% of what's listed above is definitely not true with him! Well, while dating you could see those things, but be prepared after you get married. It's not their real self. So, don't be misled, ladies. Date someone who are sincerely nice, not by show by bringing a rosary, but because their life's primary goal is pleasing God and that is evident in all their actions.

    2. ai..yayay... We will pray our lost bosconian brother, for conversion.. we may go astray at some point of our lives.. but we will always return and seek for St. John Bosco's enlightenment and guidance. Your husband deserves also to be reminded of this sometimes.. but most of the time it's pre-configured in our blood right after we graduated.

    3. Thank you for those words, Liana! I respect your opinion, no worries. Not everyone shares the same traits and/or characteristics or even their upbringing in life. While this may be an emotional generalization (as you have mentioned), it is something to uplift the Bosconian spirit.

Marriage is definitely a big step forward in life, and one of the most important things to remember is respect and communication between you and your husband. You might not see those traits in him now.. who knows, maybe you just need to talk it out if you have those particular problems with him. A Bosconian will always be a Bosconian. As mentioned by fellowjerry, maybe he just needs to be reminded of it. :) I'm sure you guys can sort things out! Praying for you both! Be positive! : )

      thanks again Liana!

  18. I am a proud bosconian! All the way from SLS-Don Bosco Dumaguete! Although we are not the typical all-boys Don-Bosco. Everything there is true be it in girls or boys. Although I am not married to a Bosconian, being a Bosconian myself is enough for this marriage.

  23. I agree with what's written here. I had this bosconian who has had a crush on me at present and he was 4 years younger than me. Nevertheless, i want him because of his bosconian traits. I am a nurse and considered to be an adult pero his really young for me. But my mom and friends doesn't want him kahit hindi pa naman nanliligaw. I don't know why. But i like him. I hope he pursue his being an engineer and will continue to love and like me despite of the magkabilang mundo thing. Isa pang dagdag, bosconian din ako :) Kudos bosconians!
